Marion County Tax Collector

The office of the tax collector is authorized by the State's Constitution and is a separate entity of any other County Departments or Agencies. The tax collector is voted in by the residents of Marion County and is privileged to serve four years terms. The tax collector is an agent for various state and government agencies for the collection of revenue and public funding. It is the responsibility of the tax collector to invest these revenues and funds to state and local agencies and taxing authorities. A wide variety of services are provided by the tax collectors to the citizens of Marion County. The tax collector is responsible for collecting personal and property taxes, sales taxes and for issuing motor vehicle and vessel registrations. He is also responsible for the issuing of fishing license and hunting license. The tax collector is also responsible for issuing drivers license and boating license. The Marion County tax collector is responsible for the County's annual budget that must be approved by the Marion County Board of County Commissioners. The Marion County tax collector is responsible for disbursement of property taxes, real estate taxes, fire, sewage and trash collection. The Marion County tax collector is also responsible for putting liens on properties that haven't paid their taxes. The back taxes can be made in monthly payments until reimbursed to the County. It is the responsibility of the Marion County tax collector to provide the citizens of Marion County with accurate up to date tax information. Businesses that sell gasoline are required to purchase tax stickers for each fuel pump on their property and and have their fuel pumps tested for accurate fuel rate flow as shown on the pump annually. The Marion County tax collector is voted in by the Marion County voters.
